Ellen Axelsen is entering her first season as an assistant coach with the field hockey program.
Axelsen was a four-year letter winner at LaSalle University, earning Atlantic-10 all-conference honors as well as all-academic honors. The captain of the field hockey team in 2007, she also posted three shutouts that season and was second in the A-10 in saves with 130.
Logging over 4,200 career minutes in goal for the Explorers, Axelsen is all over the record books. She is fourth in career minutes played(4,231:47), second in career shutouts (seven), and sixth in career saves with 348.
No stranger to the area, Axelsen graduated from New Hyde Park Memorial High School, where she was an All-New York State and All-Long Island selection in both 2002 and 2003. In addition Axelsen was a three-time all-county honoree and competed in the Nassau County Coaches Exception Senior Game.
Axelsen currently resides in New Hyde Park.
