A 2019 NCAA Division II East Regional champion at Southern New Hampshire University, Tom Novick comes to Adelphi for his first season as pitching coach in 2022.
Novick has great familiarity with Ianniciello, after coaching together in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League with the Riverhead Tomcats in 2019. That summer, the Tomcats finished as the runner-up for the HCBL Championship and possessed the second-best record in the league.
United again in 2022, Novick's work with the pitchers had Adelphi atop the NE10 Southwest Division leaderboard in team ERA at 4.34. John Rizzo, who compiled an 8-4 record with a 3.70 ERA and a team-leading 66 strikeouts, was named the NE10 Southwest Division Rookie Pitcher of the Year.
In his one season at SNHU, Novick, while progressing toward his master's degree in Finance, made five appearances in relief and limited opposing hitters to a .217 batting average. He was ultimately part of a pitching staff that led all of Division II in ERA (2.71) in 2019.
Most recently, Novick spent the 2020-21 academic year as a pitching coach at Division II Carson-Newman University, where the Eagles achieved one of their best conference records in a decade and knocked off two nationally-ranked teams, including then-No. 11 ranked Tusculum University in the SAC Tournament.
Under Novick's tutelage, Carson-Newman's pitching staff achieved their best earned-run average since 2016 -- an ERA that ranked within the Top 5 in the SAC.
He worked to develop and train the team's pitchers in all aspects of pitching techniques and arm care, while also creating daily practice plans and weekly throwing schedules, and assisting with recruiting and scouting.
Novick's experience has also included a stint as general manager and assistant pitching director of the Collegiate League of the Palm Beaches and as a summer intern with Cressey Sports Performance, where he specialized in the development of pitchers.
While Novick is still working towards his master's from SNHU, Novick graduated from the University of San Diego with his bachelor's degree in Finance in 2018.
