Rich McCarren is entering his third season as an assistant coach with the Adelphi University baseball team.

A two-year standout as an outfielder, McCarren was a mainstay in the lineup for the Panthers during the 2010 and 2011 seasons and contributed greatly to the team’s success in its first two seasons in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Over his career, McCarren batted .320 while raking in 15 doubles, two home runs, 48 RBI and a .441 slugging percentage. He played his way onto a pair of NE-10 All-Conference Teams (first team as a junior, second team as a senior) and went 4-for-9 with two RBI during the 2010 NE-10 Tournament to land on the All-Championship Team.

During Adelphi’s run to the 2011 NE-10 Championship Title and NCAA East Region Finals, McCarren batted .328, good for second on the team and 17th in the league. He set several career-bests at the plate, rapping out 61 hits, five triples and two homers while driving in 28 runs and scoring 32 times.

In 2010, McCarren led the Panthers in a handful of offensive categories, including batting average (.312), slugging percentage (.441), on base percentage (.423), runs (36), hits (58), triples (4), total bases (82) and walks (22). His outstanding play helped him earn recognition on the ABCA and Rawlings All-Region Second Team.

Prior to becoming a Panther, McCarren played for two years at Nassau Community College where he earned Second Team All-Region honors as a freshman and Defensive Player of the Year accolades as a sophomore.
