Al Sontag

Al Sontag is entering his second season as the Panthers' pitching coach.

Sontag comes to Adelphi with a long list of playing credentials, spanning 20 years. Drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the first round of the 1984 draft, Sontag climbed as high as AAA Edmonton of the Pacific Coast League in 1991, where he recorded his first AAA win against Calgary.

He was also selected to the Minnesota Twins 40-man roster in 1987, pitching in spring training games against the Detroit Tigers and Houston Astros.

From 1998-2002 Sontag competed for Bridgeport in the Independent League, compiling a 13-9 record in 2000 and earning Pitcher of The Year honors, while also acting as pitching coach. Sontag acted as pitching coach for six seasons with Bridgeport, before managing the Macon Peaches of the Southeastern League in 2003.
