The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to honor those who have contributed significantly to Adelphi University's athletic program. Persons may be recognized for their contributions as individual athletes, as members of a championship team, or for other unique contributions.

A. ELIGIBILITY: The following criteria will be strongly considered when the Hall of Fame committee looks at nominations:

1. Individual AU Student-Athletes
a. Athletic Accomplishments: Individuals shall be eligible for selection if they participated as a student-athlete at Adelphi and have:
1) Been named "All America", or...
2) Won an NCAA national championship, or...
3) Set a world record, or...
4) Participated in the Olympic Games, or...
5) Led the nation in a recognized statistical category, or...
6) Succeeded as a professional athlete, or...
7) As a "Panther Pioneer/Legends" candidate (a male student-athlete competing prior to 1970, or a female student-athlete competing prior to 1978) distinguished him/herself and the University through major victories, statistical achievements, records, or other substantial accomplishments not included in items (1) through (6) above.

b. Academic Standing: To be eligible for selection, a former student-athlete must have graduated from Adelphi or at minimum completed thirty (30) credit hours.

c. Good Citizenship: The individual must possess and shall have possessed such qualities as sportsmanship, and integrity. The individual must not have been convicted of or pled guilty to any criminal activity.
        Rescinding Membership in the Hall of Fame
The Hall of Fame Committee may rescind membership in the Adelphi Athletics Hall of Fame if the conduct of the recipient of this honor is antithetical to the values of the University and inconsistent with the character and high standards that Hall of Fame members are expected to exemplify. Further, the Committee may, in its sole discretion, take such action if it judges the recipient’s conduct could reasonably cause harm to the public reputation of the University. Such conduct could occur subsequent to the Hall of Fame induction or prior to this recognition if the University was unaware of the conduct at the time the decision was made to induct the individual into the Hall of Fame.

d. Eligibility Waiting Period
A former student-athlete shall be first eligible for selection five (5) full academic years after completing his/her degree at the University.

2. Teams
a. Full Varsity Teams: A full varsity team shall be eligible for special recognition if they have met all the above criteria.
b. Sub-Individual Teams (i.e. swimming and track & field relay teams or tennis doubles teams, etc.): Sub-individual teams and individuals of Sub-Individual teams shall be eligible for selection if they have met all of the above criteria.

3. AU Coaches: Former coaches who have had outstanding success in their sort at Adelphi shall be eligible for consideration. All criteria and qualifications are based upon the candidate's participation while serving at Adelphi. However, accomplishments prior to or after leaving Adelphi may be an important part of consideration.
a. Career Record
b. National titles
c. National Top-20 rankings
d. Development of program
e. National achievements (ie. Coach of the year, president of national coaches association, etc.)
f. Developer of student-athletes (ie. Olympians and/or world, American or NCAA record setters; number of All-Americans; number of national champions in individual sports)
g. Length of distinguished service

4. Adelphi Administrators and Staff: Former administrators and staff who have rendered extraordinary service or leadership shall be eligible for consideration. All criteria and qualifications are based upon the candidate's participation while serving at Adelphi. However, accomplishments prior or after leaving Adelphi may be an important part of consideration. The following criteria should be considered as a guide in determining extraordinary service or leadership.
a. Accomplishments
1) Did the person render extraordinary service and leadership to the athletic program?
2) Direction of the overall program under their administration
3) Facilities developed
4) People hired
5) Programs started/developed
6) Length of distinguished service
7) National achievements and involvement, such as, NCAA and conference service, professional association awards, honors, etc.
b. Good Citizenship

5. Other individuals
a. Eligibility Criterion: Individuals who are not eligible for selection under sections 1-4 above may be eligible nonetheless if they have contributed extraordinary and significantly to the advancement of intercollegiate athletics at Adelphi University.

B. SELECTION PROCESS
1. Selection Committee In addition to the Director of Athletics, the committee shall be comprised of at least eight (8) members. At least three (3) of the eight members should be female and at least one (1) committee position shall be occupied by a representative of each of the following groups:
(1) Alumni lettermen
(2) Alumni letterwomen
(3) Alumni Relations representative
(4) AU faculty
(5) At-large Individuals

2. Selection Meeting: The committee shall meet to select new Hall of Fame members during the Fall semester of every other academic year (*event moves to bi-annual event after 2016).

3. Nominations
a. Nominations may be submitted to the committee at any time, by any interested party. However only those nominations received by the committee chair at least two (2) weeks before the selection meeting shall be considered at that meeting.
b. A nomination shall be accompanied by substantive evidence of the nominees' eligibility for election and shall subsequently describe how the nominee meets the eligibility criteria.
c. All eligible nominations and the respective nominees' credentials shall be communicated in writing to the committee as far in advance of that meeting as possible.
d. Male nominees who competed prior to 1970 or female nominees prior to 1978 shall be considered to have been nominated in the "Panther Pioneer/Legends" Category.

4. Number to be Selected
a. The annual induction number of individual inductees shall be limited to no more than ten (10). b. The annual induction of "Panther Pioneer/Legends" inductees shall be limited to no more than two (2) and shall be included in the overall limit of ten (10).
c. The induction of Full varsity teams shall not count against the ten (10) inductees.
d. The induction of sub-individual teams shall count as one (1) inductee against the ten (10) inductees.

C. INDUCTION CEREMONY: Newly-selected Hall of Fame inductees shall be officially inducted at the dedication ceremony held on the third Thursday of the month of April.
