Women's Golf Battles Tough Conditions, Take First Place at TJU Fall Invitational

Norristown, Pa. - Battling through wind and poor weather throughout the two-day tournament, the Adelphi University women's golf team came out on top at the Thomas Jefferson University Fall Invitational on Thursday at Jeffersonville Golf Club.

Despite the challenging conditions leading to higher scores across the field, the Brown and Gold remained steady through all 36 holes, finishing at +95 as a team to secure their second consecutive tournament title. Adelphi bested second-place Bentley by eight strokes, while host Jefferson rounded out the top three at +107.

The Panthers grabbed control of the tournament during Wednesday's opening round, combining for a +49 to take the lead into the final 18 holes. With the wind continuing to play a factor on Thursday, Adelphi improved by three strokes with a +46 team score to hold off the field and secure the tournament crown.

Filippa Schulze-Doering led the way for the Panthers, finishing as the tournament runner-up at +18. The senior opened play with a +7 (78) on Wednesday before carding a +11 (82) during the final round. Schulze-Doering recorded five birdies across her 36 holes, including three during the opening round.

Jenny Kim followed right behind her teammate, placing third overall at +20. After opening the tournament with a +13 (84), Kim turned in Adelphi's best round of the final day, firing a +7 (78) o move up one spot on the individual leaderboard.

Nikola Truhlarova gave the Brown and Gold a third top-10 finisher, placing ninth overall at +27. The sophomore carded a +15 (86) in the opening round before shaving three strokes off her score with a +12 (83) on Thursday. Truhlarova totaled three birdies over the two rounds.

Ivory Drusch finished 12th overall at +30. The junior opened the tournament with a +14 (85) before closing out the event with a +16 (87) during Thursday's final round. Drusch recorded three birdies, all of which came during her opening 18 holes.

Adaline Ochoa rounded out the Adelphi lineup, finishing tied for 21st at +40. Ochoa shot a +18 (89) during the opening round before carding a +22 (93) on Thursday.Competing as an individual, Elimelise Ferris finished tied for 27th at +49. Ferris posted a +22 (93) in round one before closing out the tournament with a +27 (98).

Head coach Bill Bresnan and the Panthers return to the course on Monday (Oct. 5) for the Alvernia Invitational at Bulle Rock Golf Club in Havre de Grace, Md.
