Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Leggio Nets Six in Women's Lacrosse's 15-11 Victory Over Wilmington

Garden City, N.Y. - Three different players accounted for six points each on Saturday, as Adelphi University women's lacrosse took a 15-11 victory from no. 4 Wilmington (Del.) in the NCAA Second Round.

Series History:
  • Saturday's matchup marked the first ever meeting between the two teams, despite the Wildcats being a program since the 2006 season.
  • Adelphi (14-4) won it's second straight (and ninth overall) Northeast 10 Conference title while Wilmington earned it's first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference crown last weekend.
Highlights:
  • All six of Alexandra Leggio's points were goals and all Marielle Colalillo's points were assists as Julia Foppiano also finished with six points, courtesy of two goals and four helpers.
  • Rita Sefransky pulled down 12 draw control wins as the Panthers accounted for 22 in the game, compared to their opponent's six while also being responsible for a hat trick.
  • Ashley Kolomechuk used a hat trick of her own to hold onto her position as the team's leading goal-scorer this season, with 64.
  • Wilmington's Ella Royer scored her 100th goal this season at 7:44 in the third quarter.
How It Happened:
  • After trading a pair of goals to start the game, the Panthers (14-4) rattled off four unanswered to build a four-goal lead. Wilmington got in the last word of the first to cut the deficit to three.
  • Two consecutive tallies from Leggio extended the host lead to five, an advantage they maintained heading into the halftime break. Sefransky and Foppiano padded the score to make it a six-goal game, but the Wildcats saw a late score from Royer to swing momentum.
  • Coming out of the pause, Royer added two more but Kolomechuk registered the only goal of the frame for Adelphi to keep it a four-goal margin with one quarter of regulation to play.
  • The fourth finished as an even frame, with three goals to either side, but the home team's early lead proved beneficial down the stretch,
Up Next:
  • Adelphi will host no. 2 Pace University on Saturday, May 16 in the NCAA Quarterfinal. The pair have met in the second round or quarterfinal in each of the last three seasons. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. on Motamed Field and the video stream will be free of charge on the NCAA Champs Pass.
