North Attleboro, Mass. – With the Adelphi women's tennis team on the prowl for a Northeast 10 title, the league has honored seven Panthers for their accomplishments in the regular season.
Rebecca Fakas and Katarina Liedbeck were the major award winners for Adelphi, as Fakas was named the NE10 Coach of the Year and Liedbeck earned the Vern Cox Player of the Year Award.
Fakas, now a three-time Coach of the Year winner, has led the women's tennis team to 16 wins and counting, the second most in her tenure.
Liedbeck was named Player of the Year for the first time in her illustrious career, tallying a perfect 11-0 conference record as the Panthers' No. 1. The Bastad, Sweden native was also named First Team at No. 1 singles and First Team at No. 1 doubles with Roisin Boyd.
Boyd (No. 3), Oda Solevag Halvorsen (No. 4) and Sara Lindeman (No. 5) were all First Team selections along with Liedbeck. Boyd and Lindeman both held 11-0 records in NE10 play, with Solevag Halvorsen—who was also named to the All-Rookie Team—going 8-2.
Adelphi swept all three doubles selections, with Zuzanna Witkowska and Halvorsen picking up First Team No. 2 and Genesis Beltran and Lindeman earning First Team No. 3.
Witkowska, putting together a 13-6 record (8-3 conference) as Adelphi's No. 2, was a Second Team singles selection.
Beltran was Adelphi's second Second Team honoree, with an 8-1 record in No. 6 singles matches.
Kayla Castellano rounded out the conference awards for the Panthers, being named Third Team No. 5 in her first season donning the Brown and Gold.
