Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

#12 Women's Lacrosse Dominates #25 SCSU, 19-4

Garden City, N.Y. - With the help of six players with three or more points, the no. 12 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team capped a perfect regular season with a 19-4 victory against no. 25 Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday evening, at Motamed Field.

The Owls were ranked for the first time in program history this week, appearing at no. 25 in the IWLCA weekly poll, released on Monday.

Series History:
  • Adelphi maintained its perfection against SCSU, extending its win-streak to 21 games dating back to the 2006 season.
  • The last matchup was last year in the NE10 quarterfinals, where the Panthers used another offensive outburst to dominate the Owls. 2025 is the only season where the teams met two times.
Highlights:
  • Julia Foppiano and Alexandra Leggio tied for a team-leading seven points each, combining for seven goals on nine shots on target.
  • Rita Sefransky and Ashley Kolomechuk each poured in a hat trick or better, as Sefransky's four goals accompanied a team-best 12 draw controls in the win.
  • Adelphi's defense was strong, using 17 caused turnovers (just one short of their season high) to hold the Owls to single digit scoring.
How it Happened:
  • While the Owls only managed a single goal in each of the four frames, the home team used a seven-spot in the opener to quickly put the game out of reach, en route to its fourth straight game with 15 or more goals.
  • Marielle Colalillo scored or assisted on the first three Adelphi goals to get things going for the hosts. The Panthers used six unanswered tallies following Southern Connecticut's equalizer in the early going to make it a 7-1 game after the first 15 minutes of action.
  • The Owls tried to get things going in the second, scoring first at 11:41, but less than a minute later, Leggio sparked a five-goal stretch to really put the contest out of reach. Sefransky buried a woman-up strike to put the game at running time right before the halftime break.
  • With the clock on their side, Adelphi continued scoring, stretching their five goal run to eight with the first three of the the third. The Owls won a clean draw control and marched into their offensive third to cut the Panther lead to 12. Kolomechuk converted a free position attempt for the team's last goal of the third quarter.
  • Adelphi added three more in the final frame before all was said and done, with Southern Connecticut finding some life for the last goal of the game under the two-minute mark.
Up Next:
  • With an undefeated regular season at 9-0, Adelphi earns the NE10 Regular Season title for the first time outright since the 2018 season.
  • The top-seed earns a first round bye and will host the semifinals on Wednesday, April 29 at 4:00 p.m.
