Women's Lacrosse Shuts Down SNHU on Senior Day, 20-6

Garden City, N.Y. - With five goals in each frame, the no. 13 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team gave Southern New Hampshire University a 20-6 decision on Saturday, as the team celebrated Senior Day.

Series History:
  • The Panthers remain undefeated against the Penmen, dating back to the 2010 season.
Highlights:
  • Leading the team in points was junior Julia Foppiano, who put together a seven-point performance - her sith game with five or more - courtesy of four goals and a trio of assists.
  • Marielle Colalillo posted a team-high five goals with one assist to finish with six points overall. Also notching six points in the win was fellow senior Alexandra Leggio, who netted a hat trick and added three helpers.
  • Rita Sefransky set a new career-high in draw controls, winning 13 on the day, while also causing one turnover and adding a pair of assists.
  • Sonny Lionetti wreaked havoc on the Penmen attack, matching her career-high six turnovers, while also collecting six ground balls.
  • Adelphi held a severe advantage in shots on goal (31-8) and were nearly perfect in clears (19-for-21).
How It Happened:
  • Colalillo scored the first two goals of the contest to get things going for the home team on senior day. After trading a pair of goals each, Emma McClam got in the last word, capitalizing on a woman-up possession to make it 5-2 in favor of the Cats.
  • SNHU's Abby Bouffard did much of the same to start the second, but Foppiano's first of the contest sent the hosts on a six-goal run over the ensuing 10 minutes. The Cats were responsible for five goals in the remaining eight minutes of the second quarter, making it 10-3 at the halftime break.
  • Nikola Debicka's unassisted tally at 5:51 in the third put the game in running time, which lasted for three minutes until the Penmen found a way past Jillian McFadden. Another three goal run stretched into the four quarter and put the clock on notice for good, as the Panther defense allowed just one goal for the remainder of the contest.
Up Next:
  • Adelphi hosts Mercy University on Wednesday, April 15 in a 7:00 p.m. non-league matchup. The department will be hosting its second Autism Acceptance game this night, in collaboration with the Bridges to Adelphi program.
