Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Offensive Outburst Puts #1 Men's Lacrosse Over SNHU, 22-4

Manchester, NH - Braden Donnellan posted a team-leading six points as the no. 1 Adelphi University men's lacrosse team topped Southern New Hampshire, 22-4 on Sunday afternoon.

Series History:
  • Adelphi is 17-0 all-time against the Penmen, dating back to the 2010 season.
Highlights:
  • Donnellan accounted for six points on two goals and four helpers as two others each scored four goals apiece in Kyle Lewis and Michael Durnin
  • Also recording a hat trick was Vincent McDermott, who landed half of his shots on goal.
  • Ries Bower and Lewis both caused three turnovers each, as the team combined for 10 on the afternoon.
  • At X, William Greaves went 16-for-19 with 10 ground balls, as Michael Reilly and Kyle Stark also combined to go 8-for-11.
  • All four goalies made an appearance in the game, with Christian Tomei earning the win after a scoreless first half with seven saves.
How it Happened:
  • Durnin got the scoring started at 13:20 in the opener as the Panthers never looked back, putting up five over the first 15 minutes. Four key saves kept the home team off the board in the first, as Tomei did not allow a single goal in the first half.
  • Donnellan and Greaves connected to kick off the second quarter, which saw nine more goals to the visitors side of the scoreboard, including a trio of goals in less than three minutes. Carter Linkletter landed a pole goal at 3:36 to make it 12-0 Adelphi.
  • Thomas Gentile took over between the pipes for the Cats in the third quarter, and did not allow a goal until his team had worked out to a 17-0 advantage. Lewis and Durnin made up for the allowance, tacking on a goal each before the quarter ended.
  • With the damage done well before the fourth quarter ensued, Brendan O'Rourke got the last word for the Cats, scoring his first of the season with 2:10 left on the clock.
Hear from Coach Purdie:
  • "We executed our game plan at a very high level today, especially in the first two quarters resulting in Christian [Tomei] collecting a shutout. When you move the ball as unselfishly as we did today, the scoring becomes easier and makes us a dangerous team. Our defense locked SNHU down early, which gave our offense the confidence to build that 14-0 halftime lead. We're going to build on this momentum this week as we prepare for the next one."
Up Next:
  • Adelphi prepares to host the no. 2 team in NCAA Division II, Saint Anselm College on Saturday, April 4. Opening faceoff is set for 1:00 p.m. on Motamed Field.
