Men's Basketball Honors Five Seniors Before Matchup With Bentley

Garden City, N.Y. – Before today's game, the Adelphi basketball team honored Al-Fatir Connor, Dayshaun Walton, Mason Jackson, Matthew Price and Jarnel Rancy for Senior Day. The Panthers tried once again to mount a furious comeback, but time ran short as they fell to Bentley, 80-76.

Series History:

  • Adelphi (19-10, 9-8 NE10) moves to 15-11 against the Falcons since 2002. The last matchup between the foes was a 75-56 Bentley win in Waltham on January 24. Walton and Connor each scored 20 points in the contest.

Highlights:

  • Walton had one of his best games of the season, scoring 27 on 7-for-15 shooting (3-for-4 from three) and grabbing six boards while adding four assists.
  • Connor had 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting and knocked down two three-pointers.
  • Patrick Burke was the third Panther in double figures with 13 points. He, along with Rancy, recorded six rebounds.
  • Rancy had three important blocks in the game and tallied four assists.

How It Happened:

  • The game got off to a fast start with Bentley holding a 12-7 lead at the under-16 minute timeout.
  • The Falcons shot the lights out in the first half, going 20-for-30 from the floor and 5-for-9 from three-point range.
  • Coming out of the four-minute media timeout, Adelphi had some life, and makes from Walton and Burke cut the lead to 10.
  • Zakari McQueen made a three with nine seconds left to have Adelphi trailing by nine, but a buzzer-beater by Bentley put the score at 47-35 going into the break.
  • Bentley's lead went back up to 16 early, but threes from Connor and Price cut the deficit to 10.
  • Solid defense kept the Falcons' shooters at bay, and the Panthers slowly began to chip away at the lead.
  • Adelphi struggled to get the lead under seven points, as seemingly every basket was answered by a Bentley make.
  • The Brown and Gold finally caught a break, and a three-point play from Reece Brown put the home team within striking distance.
  • Connor knocked down another three-pointer before the eight-minute timeout, and a Falcons shot clock violation had the CRS on its feet.
  • Walton made two free throws on the next possession, and with 7:17 to play, the Panthers trailed by one.
  • Bentley came right back with a make, a stop and a make to go back up six.
  • In the final minutes, Walton willed the Panthers into the game, making tough shot after tough shot, but Bentley continued to lead.
  • Trailing by five, Adelphi forced a turnover with 23 seconds remaining, and Walton knocked down a three to cut the lead to two.
  • On the ensuing inbound, Bentley could not get the ball in, and a turnover gave the Panthers a chance to tie or win.
  • The shot clanked off the back iron, and Adelphi was forced to foul.
  • Bentley made both free throws and, although Patrick Burke was able to score before the buzzer, there was not enough time on the clock, and the Panthers fell, 80-76.

Up Next:

  • The Panthers will travel to American International on Tuesday night for their regular season finale. Tip from Springfield is set for 7:30 p.m.
