Frostburg, MD - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse program completed their Maryland trip with an 18-7 victory against Frostburg State University on Sunday, to move to 2-0 this season.

Series History:
  • Sunday's matchup marked the first ever meeting with the Bobcats. Frostburg State has been an associate member of the East Coast Conference since the 2019 season.
Highlights:
  • Michael Durnin was one of two Panthers to reach six points, as he led the team in scoring with five goals and one assist. Braden Donnellan landed six points courtesy of four helpers and a pair of goals.
  • Three other players had two goals each, in Vincent McDermott, Kyle Lewis and Ryan Woodland. Joey Sabia scored his first collegiate goal in the final quarter of action.
  • In total the scoring for Adelphi was spread among 10 different players.
  • At X, Michael Reilly had another standout performance, going 10-for-16 and collecting seven ground balls.
  • Leading on defense, Ries Bower accounted for a trio of caused turnovers and scooped up four ground balls, but also spent a total of three minutes serving penalties, in a game that featured over 20 minutes in total across both teams.
  • Christian Tomei spent the bulk of time between the pipes, allowing three goals but picking up eight saves for the win.
How It Happened:
  • After a turnover on either side, Durnin opened the scoring for Adelphi at 12:48 (2-0) that sparked a flurry of goals over the ensuing six minutes. With 6:54 remaining, the Panthers worked out to a 7-0 advantage and added another before the hosting Bobcats found the back of the cage.
  • Following the opening 15 minutes, the home team trailed by eight. In the second quarter, the teams matched shots, but the Brown and Gold padded their side of the scoreboard with another four tallies, to lead 13-1 at the halftime break.
  • Each team scored twice in the third, with the Bobcats getting an advantage in shots on goal despite the Panthers winning all five faceoffs.
  • The tune shifted in the final frame as Frsotburg State managed to outscore the top-team in Division II, 4-3.
Hear from Coach Purdie:
  • "A win is a win, but player safety has to come first. Today, our roster endured an unprecedented amount of late contact and unnecessary hits. To see that kind of approach on the field is disappointing; we play to compete, not to see athletes put at risk."
Up Next:
  • The Panthers will open up their home slate on Wednesday, February 18 when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College at 7:00 p.m.
