Volleyball Sweeps Saint Michael's in Friday Tilt

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball team used 12 services aces and competitive offense to steal a three-set sweep over Saint Michael's College on Friday evening, inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.

Series History:
  • The Panthers (11-9, 3-1 NE10) remain victorious over the Purple Knights, extending the all-time win streak to 19 games.
  • It also marks the 10th consecutive three-set decision, as 14 of 19 matchups were completed as a sweep.
Highlights: How It Happened:
  • Bigelow rattled off three of her five service aces in the opening stretch of the first set, to help the home team jump out to a commanding 7-1 lead, however the visitors turned around for a six-point swing of their own to knot the game at 8-all. Another five-point stretch put the hosts in the lead for good, with Brokes tagging a trip of aces of her own to help bring Adelphi to set point.
  • Saint Michael's struggled to get any offense going, being held to a negative hitting percentage in all three frames, while the Cats saw their best mark of the match in the second, at .467.
  • After Meyer notched another kill to make it a 10-point advantage in the second, the hosts continued to hold the pressure, resulting in a 25-13 decision.
  • The third set played out much like the first, with service aces from Adelphi and offensive miscues from the Purple Knights side of the net. The hosts took an identical set score of 25-14 to win their third conference match of the season.
Up Next:
  • Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 14 in a non-conference meeting at cross-town rival Molloy University.
