Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Burke Records Double-Double as Men's Hoops Falls At Assumption, 67-77

Worcester, Mass. - Despite a double-double from Patrick Burke and career-high from Al-Fatir Connor, the Adelphi University men's basketball team fell to Assumption University, 67-77 on Wednesday evening.

Series History:
  • Today's matchup marked the 25th overall meeting between the two teams since the 2005-2006 season, with Adelphi holding a 13-12 overall record.
  • Last season, the Panthers split the regular season series, with their last win over the Greyhounds taking place on January 25, 2025.
Highlights:
  • Patrick Burke notched his second double-double of the season, accounting for 17 points and 13 rebounds, while shooting an impressive .500 (8-for-16) from the field.
  • Al-Fatir Connor set a new career-high in scoring with 24 points, while knocking down a pair of triples and putting up a 6-for-9 performance at the charity stripe.
  • Zakari McQueen and Reece Brown came off the bench to combine for 14 points and each chipped in a trio of rebounds.
  • Adelphi was responsible for pulling down four more boards off the glass than Assumption.
How it Happened:
  • Assumption used an early run to command the opening frame, jumping out to an 11-2 advantage before the first media timeout. Neither team scored for over two minutes, until Connor broke the silence with back-to-back free throws.
  • It was a game of catch-up for the Cats, who trailed by at-most 12, but cut the host lead down to five with a 7-0 run to close out the first half.
  • Once again, the Greyhounds worked their way out to a 12-point lead to start the second, while the visitors struggled to find consistency on offense.
  • Adelphi used a 10-2 run over a two minute span under the 10 minute mark in the second to come within five of the Greyhounds. In that span, the Cats were 6-for-7 from the floor and capped the run with a three pointer from Zakari McQueen.
  • After pushing their lead back out to 10, the Greyhounds succumbed to the clawing Panthers, who cut their deficit to three courtesy of another McQueen trey at the 5:33 mark.
  • Foul trouble for the Brown and Gold presented itself as a problem under five minutes to play, as Assumption went 11-for-15 from the free throw line, after not appearing at the stripe in the opening 20 minutes of action.
Hear from Coach Duke:
  • "I thought our team did a good job competing in Laska Gymnasium. After the first five minutes, we were able to handle their pressure and not turn the ball over. Moving forward, we need to take advantage of our open looks and free throws and focus on knocking down those shots.
Up Next:
  • Adelphi remains on the road and will take on Saint Michael's College on Saturday, Jan. 10 in Colchester, Vermonth. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
