Waterbury, Conn. — Head coach Gary Book and the Adelphi men's soccer team returned to the field on Thursday night to take on Wilmington (Del.)
The game started off with a slow back and forth with each team trying to establish possession.
Alessio Consoli, Agustin Soldo and Matthew Murphy threatened but it was Wilmington who scored first in the 31st minute.
Six minutes later, the Panthers peppered the Wilmington net but were unable to score as the Wildcats went into the break with a one goal lead.
For the next twenty minutes, Wilmington threatened but Andrea Farinella made four saves to keep Adelphi in the game.
The stellar goalkeeping flipped momentum in the Panthers' favor. Adelphi kept the ball in the Wilmington half. The Cats were awarded a corner kick.
In the 80th minute the cross deflected off of Sam Nolan and the ball found Lucas Nicoloau, who tied the game at one.
Wilmington had a chance to tie the game with five minutes remaining but the shot sailed wide and the game would end in a 1-1 draw.
Farinella, Soldo, Arik Landau, Ryan Holt and Stephen Betz all made their Adelphi debuts in the game.
Book and the Panthers will return to the field on Saturday to take on Post.
