Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Reinerink Scores Game-Winner as Women's Soccer Bests STAC 1-0

Garden City, N.Y. — Head coach Brooke DeRosa and the Adelphi women's soccer team returned to Motamed Field on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference tilt with St. Thomas Aquinas.

The Panthers set the tone for the first half early on with quick passes and getting the ball deep into the Spartan zone. Bethany Solari, Kara DeBlaiso and Madison Apicella all had chances in the first twenty minutes but none beat the STAC keeper.

For the remainder of the period, the Panthers continued to get the ball in deep but not a single strike could find the back of the net. The final minutes of the half saw the Spartans sit back and not allow any real offense has the game went into the break scoreless.

After making some changes coming out of the half, the Cats came out firing. Three minutes into the second stanza Adelphi was awarded a corner and Madison Apicella took advantage. The senior swung a perfect cross to the middle of the box where it found Carmen Reinerink who sent a perfect header past the STAC goalie for an Adelphi lead.

For the next thirty minutes, the Panthers controlled the pace of the game sending Julia Craig, Crystal Knoell and Sophia Cataldo wide but the second goal of the game eluded them.

St. Thomas Aquinas finally got some momentum in the final minutes, pushing eight players up but the Panther defense stopped any real chances as they earned a 1-0 victory.

Adelphi outshot the Spartans sixteen (seven shots on goal) to two (one shot on goal) and earned five corner kicks to STAC's one.

DeRosa and the Cats will return to the field on Saturday Sep. 27 against Saint Anselm for Youth Day at Motamed Field.
