Uniondale, N.Y. — The Adelphi baseball team took the short trip over to Mitchel Field on Saturday afternoon for its season ending doubleheader against Molloy.
Game 1: Adelphi 0, Molloy 6
Billy Kind got the start for the Panthers and finished with a solid line of 3.0 innings pitched, two hits and one earned run.
The Adelphi offense had its chances in this one, but just could not come through with runners on and were held scoreless throughout.
Molloy took complete control in the bottom of the eighth, scoring three runs to make the score 6-0 and that is where it would stand as the Lions took game one.
Game 2: Adelphi 2, Molloy 6
The offensive woes continued for the Cats in the second game of the day as they once again left two runners on in the top of the first.
Molloy got to C.J. Forman in the third, scoring four to take another commanding lead. The Cats struck back in the top of the fourth after Johnny Catuosco drove in Joe Pellegrino to cut the lead to three.
In the bottom of the fifth the Lions scored two more runs to go up 6-1. Greyson Pizzonia responded with a solo home run, hoping to spark the offense late. Two walks would give the Panthers a small chance at a comeback, but the Molloy reliever ended any chance at a comeback striking out the last batter of the sixth. Nothing was going for Adelphi in the seventh as it fell, 6-2.
The Panthers end their season with 20-26, 10-14 NE10 record.
Jack Tate had the highest batting average on the team, hitting .352 in his freshman campaign.
Pellegrino hit .350 on the season and led the team in on-base percentage (.459), home runs (10) and RBI (42).
Dawson Montesa was the team leader in ERA (1.99), WHIP (1.11), innings pitched (72.1), strikeouts (105) and wins (eight).
