Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Advances to Second Straight Final Four with 21-7 Win Over Molloy

Garden City, N.Y. – On a sunny Sunday afternoon, the NCAA men's lacrosse championship continued as two Long Island rivals squared off for a Mother's Day matinee. The Adelphi University men's lacrosse program picked up another tournament win over Molloy University in a 21-7 decision, and will be hosting their second straight Final Four contest on Motamed Field.

This was the first time that Adelphi and Molloy battled in the NCAA tournament, and the first meeting between the two teams this season. The last time out, the Panthers won via a 22-7 final in Rockville Centre, N.Y., dating back to last March.

The Brown and Gold (17-1) got things rolling in the first quarter, with sophomore Michael Durnin getting a helper from Braden Donnellan. Noah Gibson and Durnin each found the back of the net to put the home team ahead 3-0 before Molloy would get their first tally on the board.

To start the second frame, the same duo of Durnin and Donnellan struck again. Junior Gavin Herzog would get in on the goal scoring action, via a Frank Falco assist. The Lions looked to stop the bleeding with a goal from Tommy Corcoron. Kyle Lewis put the home team up by four with a pass from Dylan Renner from beyond the midline, leading to a fast break tally. Adelphi's lead grew to six to finish the first half of play.

Coming out of the break the visitors opened the scoring , but the Brown and Gold rattled off 10 straight goals by six different players over the ensuing 12 minutes. Gibson recorded a hat trick in the third quarter alone, en route to a score of 18-3 to end the frame.

Going into the fourth quarter the Panthers lead grew to as many at 16 goals, prompting Molloy to pull their senior goalie Christian Michaels and both teams to pull starters. Following the changes, the Lions put together three straight goals, two coming by way of man up opportunities. Luke Mackin had the final score of the game for the Panthers, resulting in the final score of 21-7.

Adelphi had a total of nine different goal scorers- leading the way was Michael Durnin in both points (7) and goals (6). On the defensive end, Reis Bower suffocated the Lion attack causing five turnovers and picking up six ground balls. Dylan Renner not only had his first point of the season, but had 11 saves and kept yet another team under the 10-goal threshold. William Greaves had himself a day at the faceoff, going 16-for-23.

The Panthers have themselves a rematch from last year's Final Four game and most recently the 2025 Northeast-10 Conference championship, as the Saint Anselm College Hawks will make their first trip to Garden City next weekend. With the season series at 1-1, the winner will not only win the season series but punch their ticket to the national championship game. The semifinal game is set for 1:00 p.m. on Motamed Field.
