Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. — Head coach Bill Ianniciello and the Adelphi baseball team were back in action on Tuesday afternoon to take on Mercy in a rescheduled game from February.
The Panther leadoff hitter Jack Wishner started the game off with a walk and was able to come around and score after some savvy baserunning. Wishner was advanced twice by groundouts before scoring on a wild pitch.
In the first start of his young career, C.J. Forman was solid. He pitched three complete innings allowing only one run. Zach Rovner came in and threw a scoreless fourth before the Cats got back on the board.
The top of the fifth saw Erick Duignan walk and Tommy Rizzuto single to put two runners on. Chaos would ensue two batters later as a wild pitch and throwing error scored Duignan. Anthony Rigogliosi then cashed in with a runner on third, scoring Rizzuto after an RBI single.
Jacob Lee allowed no runs in the fifth and sixth before the Panthers poured it on with four more runs in top seven.
Rigogliosi drew a one out walk before Jack Tate homered for the third straight game, making the score 5-1. Joe Pellegrino and Matt Ryan were then hit by pitches to put two on. Giancarlo Rengifo would take advantage of the Maverick pitching miscues, driving two in after a double to center field. Adelphi's seventh run was scored after Philip D'Aguanno reached on a throwing error by the Mercy pitcher, scoring Rengifo. In the top of the eighth, Adelphi would get two more with a Joe Pellegrino single as he drove in Rizzuto and Rigogliosi and Rizzuto gave the Brown and Gold their tenth run after an RBI single.
Colin Richardson allowed no runs, no hits and struck out two in the seventh and eighth innings. Matthew Curto closed the door in the ninth as the Cats went on to win 10-1.
Rizzuto earned his first collegiate start in the game and tallied the first three hits of his career.
The Adelphi baseball team will finally be back at William J. Bonomo Field on Friday when it plays host to Molloy.
