Garden City, N.Y. — After a great performance in the Adelphi men's basketball team's win over New Haven last week, Tavin Pierre Philippe was named the Northeast-10's Player of the Week.
Pierre Philippe followed that up with a huge game in the Panther's quarterfinal win over Saint Michael's, scoring 26 points on 9-18 shooting (4-6 3pt).
The victory sets up Adelphi up for a third matchup with fifth seeded Pace. The Panthers and Setters have been jockeying for position in both the national and regional rankings for the past few weeks, but Adelphi has gotten the better of its New York rival.
On Feb. 19, the 'Cats beat the Setters 74-63 in Pleasantville to clinch their first regular season NE10 title since the 2010-11 season.
The two squads are one and two in the NE10 in total defense, both allowing under 68 points per game. Adelphi has a slight advantage on the offensive side of the ball, ranking second in the conference in field goal percentage and first in three-point field goal percentage compared to Pace sitting at third and fourth in those categories.
Tip is set for 7:30 PM in the CRS on Wednesday night with the winner advancing to the NE10 Final on Sunday. The Panthers or Setters will face the winner of #2 Bentley and #3 Southern New Hampshire
