Softball Rallies Twice Against Molloy, Win Third Straight

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - Highlighted by two home runs in as many innings, the Adelphi University softball team swept its doubleheader against Molloy University Tuesday afternoon on the road, by the final scores of 6-2 and 4-3.

Game 1: Adelphi 6, Molloy 2
The matinee featured an early lead for the Lions, with the Panthers soon responding with a stronger wave to hold on for a victory.

Despite starter Jenna Plue registering two strikeouts in the first, a double and single back-to-back scored the first two runs for the hosts their first time up to bat.

Reeghan McCarthy led off the second with a double to put the pressure back on the hosts. Fellow freshman Maddy Moore then connected for her second home run in four days to the opposite field, knotting up the contest at two-all.

Not wasting any time the following inning, Brianna Pearson joined the party off the first pitch she saw, going yard for the first time in 2025. Moore drew a walk with the bases loaded, extending the Brown and Gold lead to three.

Julianna Sanzone and McCarthy rallied for a pair of doubles in the seventh, tacking on another insurance run.

After the first inning, Plue began to keep Molloy in check. The junior transfer only allowed two hits for the last six frames, along with increasing her strikeout total to seven across a total of 139 pitches for her fourth win this season.

Game 2: Adelphi 4, Molloy 3
Contrary to the earlier action on Tuesday, the 'Cats started out with the advantage in the nightcap, and survived a later surge from Molloy.

It was Pearson again in Game 2 sparking some offense, driving in Angelina Kellogg to break the ice in favor of the visitors.

Molloy's Mae Savage drew a walk with the bases loaded in the second inning, tying the game at one. Amaya Page followed that up with a two RBI single to give the Lions a 3-1 lead after two.

Stevie Dabbidie restricted Adelphi to one hit from the third through the sixth. Her pitching line then improved to four hits and one earned run headed into the final inning.

With a wild pitch putting Kaitlyn Klepper and Zee Zee Shreter in scoring position, Jordyn Pasqueralli knocked an infield single to the first base side, cutting the deficit to one. Courtney Wengryn came to the plate with the Panthers down to their final out, but after seeing one she liked, belted a ball over the center fielder's head, bringing the tying and winning runs home for a 4-3 advantage.

Tori Parente faced true pressure in the home half of the seventh, as a two out single brought Dabbidie up to bat herself. Connecting on a pitch and carrying it deep to the left field wall, Angeline Montañez made a sensational play colliding with the fence, yet holding on to secure the Panthers' sweep on the evening.

Parente also snagged her fourth win of the campaign, with a final line of three earned runs, nine hits, and four strikeouts.

Head Coach Katie Apostolopoulos and the Panthers will be back in action when they begin conference play on Saturday, March 29 against Franklin Pierce University. First pitch from Rindge, N.H. is scheduled for noon.
