Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

#24 Men's Basketball Handles Saint Anselm, 87-72

Manchester, N.H. — Head coach Dave Duke and the nationally ranked Adelphi men's basketball returned to the court on Saturday afternoon to take on Saint Anselm.

The game started off quickly with Andres Fulgencio keeping his hot hand going from Wednesday's victory as he buried an early three pointer.

Adelphi's offense was led by Dayshaun Walton and Tavin Pierre Philippe early, but Saint Anselm continued to fight back. Every Panthers run was followed by a quick Hawks bucket with the lead never getting higher than seven.

With just over two minutes left in the half, Saint Anselm was able to cut the lead to three after a pair of free throws. Nuha Sagnia then responded with four points himself on consecutive possessions but a Hawk jumper put the score at 36-31 heading into the break.

Early in the second half, the Panther offense seemed to be clicking as baskets from Walton, Mason Jackson and Al-Fatir Connor put the 'Cats up ten. However, the Hawks continued to play pesky basketball and not let the game get away from them. Saint Anselm kept on chipping away at the Adelphi lead and was able to tie the game on a 10-4 run with just under nine minutes to play.  Fulgencio responded to the tie with a driving layup and the foul and the Panthers were off and running.

The senior guard spark an impressive 11-0 run that took all the air out of Saint Anselm's comeback bid. The trio of Fulgencio, Walton and Pierre Philippe, who combined for 61 points, were too much for the Hawks and Adelphi won the game, 87-72.

Pierre Philippe scored a season-high 22 points, followed by Walton with 21 and Fulgencio with 18.

Patrick Burke matched his career high of nine boards.

The Panthers will return to the court next Saturday in the CRS at 3:30 p.m. when they host Saint Michael's.
