Garden City, N.Y. — The first place Adelphi men's basketball team returned to the court on Saturday afternoon when they hosted Franklin Pierce for Military Appreciation Day.
With a buzzing crowd on hand, the Panthers roared to a fast start in the early goings. Dayshaun Walton continued his hot streak of play after his heroics in the team's overtime win over Bentley, making the first three pointer of the game.
Shots were falling everywhere for the 'Cats as Walton, Mason Jackson, Tavin Pierre Philippe and Matthew Price all caught fire. The Adelphi defense remained stout as well and its lead continued to grow, reaching 24 after a 14-0 run over a five minute stretch. After a dominant half holding the Ravens to only 18.2% shooting, the Panthers led 43-17 going into the break.
Adelphi's dominance continued into the second half as it continued to suffocate Franklin Pierce defensively and make seemingly every shot.
Jackson had the best shooting game of his career, recording career highs in both points (23) and three-pointers made (five).
The Panthers shot an impressive 63.3% in the second half and 59.3% from the floor while holding Franklin Pierce to 30% shooting in a 96-53 victory.
Price tallied a career-high seven assists and was second on the score sheet with 18 points.
Walton and Nuha Sagnia led the team with eight boards a piece.
Head coach Dave Duke and the Panthers will return on Wednesday when they travel to AIC at 5:30 p.m.
