Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Caps Off Undefeated December With Stifling 68-54 Win Over Goldey-Beacom

Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi men's basketball team won its seventh game in a row, taking down Goldey-Beacom 68-54 in a defensive battle.

Series History:

  • Adelphi (10-1) moves to 6-2 against the Lightning all-time, carrying a three game win streak since 2022. Their last matchup was a tight 68-62 Panther win last season in Wilmington. Al-Fatir Connor potted 17.

Highlights:

  • Dayshaun Walton led the team in rebounds (eight), assists (five), steals (four) while tying for the lead in points with Mason Jackson (13). Walton shot 6-11 from the floor while Jackson was 5-8 and the team leader in three-point shooting (3-5)

  • Jarnel Rancy had another stellar game defensively, tying his Adelphi-high in blocks with eight. The senior now sits 22 blocks away from the all-time Division II record

  • Matthew Price (10 points), Reece Brown (10 points) and Zakari McQueen (eight points) each added sparks, scoring nearly all of Adelphi's points off of the bench. Adelphi paced Goldey-Beacom in bench points, 30-13.

  • The Panthers cap off the 2025 portion of the season with a 10-1 record and went undefeated in the month of December.

How It Happened:

  • The trend of slow starts continued for the Panthers as defense was the name of the game early on, with only 12 points behind scored between the two teams in the first five minutes.

  • Tied at 12 with 11:29 to play in the period, Adelphi ripped off a 16-2 run after baskets from McQueen, Brown and Jackson.

  • Leading by as many as 11 less than three minutes in the half, the Lightning ripped off three quick baskets to head into the break only trailing 30-24.

  • In the second half, the Panthers upped the ante on defense and shot incredibly well from the floor. Goldey-Beacom was held to 37.9% shooting while Adelphi shot 55.2%

  • The first 10 minutes were a back and forth affair, with the Lightning keeping the Brown and Gold close. After a Walton step back jumper, Adelphi went on an extended 20-6 run. During that period, Goldey-Beacom only shot 3-14.

  • Holding a lead as large as 20, the Panthers slowed the pace down and pulled out a 68-54 victory.

  • Goldey-Beacom held the edge on the glass, out-rebounding Adelphi 40 (16 offensive rebounds)-27 (six offensive rebounds).

  • Adelphi continued to dominate the game inside, scoring 34 points in the paint compared to the Lightning's 28.

Up Next:

  • The Panthers will take a quick holiday break and be back in action on Thursday, January 1, for a non-conference tilt with #2 Daemen. Tip from Amherst, N.Y. is set for 2:00 p.m.
