Garden City, N.Y. - Following a recognition of its senior class, the Adelphi University volleyball team went on to sweep Saint Michael's College on Saturday, inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.
The program celebrated
Delaney Kiendra,
Sarah Munn, and
Macarty McQueen at the start of the contest, as each will conclude their careers this season.
Adelphi (21-6, 6-1 NE10) wasted no time getting hot, and had doubled the Purple Knights' score at 14-7, courtesy of a block from
Madeleine Chaapel. St. Mike's struggled to get out of the deficit, as the Panthers took seven of the final nine points to take the first set, 25-13.
The visitors managed to win the first few points of the second set, but in no time, the hosts once again doubled their opponents score at 14-7, this time with a kill from McQueen. Kiendra sparked a six-point run with McQueen at the serving line, that all but sealed the deal for the home team. Adelphi went on to win the second in similar fashion to the first, 25-14.
With the help of a 6-0 advantage to start the third, the Panthers cruised to a sweep of Saint Michael's, using a 9-3 advantage in service aces while also having more than double the amount of kills.
Chaapel led the offense with 15 kills, while McQueen chipped in 12.
Ana Carolina Westerich paced the offense with 30 assists, good enough for 10 assists per set.
Adelphi will be on the road for its final two regular season matchups - with its next game on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Southern Connecticut State University. Opening serve is set for 5:00 p.m.
