Field Hockey Closes Out Regular Season With 5-0 Win Over Saint Michael's

Colchester, Vt. – The Adelphi University field hockey team used an offensive outburst on Saturday to defeat Saint Michael's College, 5-0, to conclude its regular season.

The Panthers (11-5, 10-2 NE10) were held scoreless by the hosts through the first quarter. Although the offense dominated possession—outshooting the Purple Knights 17-0 and drawing six penalty corners—the Brown and Gold couldn't capitalize on any of their early opportunities.

The second period saw Adelphi break the ice, taking a 1-0 lead when Lana Mignon De Wet scored in the 26th minute. The Panthers drew four more penalty corners and took seven additional shots in the second quarter, but the opposition's defense held strong, keeping the margin to one goal through 30 minutes of play.

Out of the intermission, the Cats' offense came alive, scoring three goals in the third quarter. Emily Souke's second goal of the season came off a pass from Caroline Beakes, giving Adelphi a commanding 3-0 advantage after Jenna Geels added the second of the game.

In the final frame, De Wet found the back of the net once more to put an exclamation point on the game. Her hat trick marked her second straight contest with three goals.

In the dominant victory, the Panthers' defense did not allow Saint Michael's to register a single shot, and the hosts earned just one penalty corner throughout the game en route to the combined shutout by goalkeepers Allison Gregory and Justina Cavallaro. Purple Knights' netminder Joelle Cameron tallied her fifth highest save count this season - with 29 on Saturday afternoon.

Adelphi earned the #2 seed in this year's Northeast 10 Conference tournament based on its head-to-head win over Saint Anselm during the regular season.

Head coach Jess Mulhern and the Panthers will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 4, when they welcome Southern Connecticut State to Garden City for a Northeast 10 Championship quarterfinal matchup at 4 p.m.
