Four Reach Double-Figure Kills in Volleyball's Win Over Pace

10/7/2025 8:59:00 PM

Box Score Pleasantville, N.Y. - With four different players recording double-digit kills, the Adelphi University volleyball team won its 11th consecutive contest, topping Pace University in four sets on Tuesday evening.

Elena Covic and Madeleine Chaapel both finished with 11 kills with Macarty McQueen and Delaney Kiendra following close behind, each with 10 of their own. Ana Carolina Westerich paced the offense in the win, adding 32 to her total that currently ranks in the top-five among NCAA Division II setters. Defensively, Autumn Moore accounted for 18 digs, while tossing out four assists along the way.

The Setters (8-4, 0-1 NE10) managed to win the opening frame by a narrow 25-23 decision, using a pair of kills to close out the set. The teams experienced three different lead changes and 10 tie scores throughout to land at the home team taking the first, before Adelphi found it's groove to take the next three.

In a serious momentum shift, the Cats were perfect on offense, totaling 10 kills with zero errors to take the second and even the match with a 25-10 victory. Pace was plagued with miscues from their attacking unit, as the hosts only put down eight kills but committed 11 errors.

After the Setters opened the third with a service error, Covic and Mackenzie Casey teamed up for a block, with the latter leading with a game-high five block assists. The Panthers went on to secure a 25-19 victory to lead in the match, however the home team did not go down without a fight.

At 16-13, the Pace coaching staff challenged a call that could have slowed the Brown and Gold momentum - but the call stood, allowing the visitors to use a four-point run to stay in the drivers' seat. Katie Brokes came in to serve match point and concluded the contest with an ace - one of the team's nien for the game.

Adelphi returns to the Center for Recreation and Sports on Saturday, October 11 for a rematch of the 2024 NCAA Division II East Region second round. The Falcons went on to win the regional title and win a game at the Elite Eight - a first for a team out of the East. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
