Worcester, Mass. — The Adelphi men's basketball team continued its quick roadtrip as it took on Assumption on Saturday afternoon with both teams looking to earn first place in the Northeast-10.
Dayshaun Walton opened the scoring with a layup plus the foul and the race was on. Both teams would pour in baskets but it was Adelphi that grabbed an edge half way through the first period. After another Walton make, the Panthers gained an eight point lead.
Assumption tried to battle back but the 'Cats were too hot as buckets from Mason Jackson, Matthew Price and Walton put Adelphi up 11 at the break.
The home team came out hot in the beginning of the second half, cutting the Panther lead all the way down to one. Mason Jackson responded on the next possession with a jump shot that sparked the offense. A one point Adelphi lead grew to nine and all of the momentum shifted in the road team's way.
The Panther lead, led by Price and Walton, never was lower than five as the 'Cats dominated the final ten minutes of the game and took home the win, 76-68.
Adelphi (18-5, 10-2 NE10) moved into sole possession of first place with the victory.
Walton scored a team-high 19 points, followed by Price with 17.
Jackson grabbed an Adelphi high nine boards and dished out four assists.
Head coach Dave Duke and the Panthers will return to the court on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. when they host Bentley for the Adelphi basketball Welcome Back Bash.
