Back On Top: Men's Lax Outlasts Saint A's in NE10 Title Game, 10-9

Garden City, N.Y. - After a one year-hiatus, the Adelphi University men's lacrosse got back in the win colum for Northeast-10 Conference Championship, following its 10-9 defeat of no. 2 Saint Anselm College on Saturday afternoon.

Jumping out to a three goal lead after the opening quarter, the Panthers managed to hold on to a one-goal decision in the end, resulting in the program's fifth conference title.

Eamon Hall led all players with four goals as NE10 All-Rookie selection Braden Donnellan posted a team-leading five points behind one tally and four assists.

The Cats got out to an early lead using a five-goal stretch to make it 6-1 at 11:24 in the second. The Hawks cut the host lead in half using back-to-back goals and matched the Adelphi output in the frame to trail by three at the half.

Despite eight shots in the third, Saint Anselm stopped five shots from the Adelphi attack to hold them scoreless over 15 minutes. Noah Larson tallied back-to-back scores including the equalizer to make it 8-8 heading into the fourth.

Using an unreleasable penalty from the third, Saint A's rocketed two shots quickly towards Dylan Renner, as he stopped the third attempt and sent the ball to Adelphi's offensive zone. Logan Tucker got on the board at 10:48 to return the lead to the Panthers, and Kyle Lewis added his first of the contest with 2:08 remaining in regulation.

Without winning a single faceoff, the Brown and Gold were in a position to secure the win as Renner continued stopping shots from the Hawk attack. A late effort from the two-seed towards the cage fell short as the Adelphi defense kept them at bay, despite a goal from Jack Andrews at the buzzer.

Following the victory, Joel Godett from the NE10 office presented the championship awards- Caleb Jacobsen was given the Elite 24 award (given to the highest cumulative GPA at the championship) for his 3.898 in biology. Aidan Fitzgerald, Donnellan and Renner were named to the All-Championship Team with Renner being named the Most Outstanding Player.

Adelphi will likely remain as the no. 1 seed in the North Region for the upcoming NCAA tournament. The 2024 selection show will be Sunday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m on ncaa.com.
