Winter Park, Fla. - Adelphi University women's lacrosse has a chance to make history this weekend after securing a victory over East Stroudsburg, 15-10 on Saturday in the NCAA Division II National Championship.
A win on Saturday would give the Panthers their 10th National title in program history - which would not only lead Division II, but it would mark the first program in D2 women's lacrosse history to reach double-digits.
An even first half saw the semifinal matchup tied following the first quarter and after two. The Panthers managed nine shots on goal in the second frame, but ESU netminder - and First Team All-American - Abby Simonetti stopped four of the shots as Adelphi went on to match scores with the Warriors- each accounting for five goals.
Danielle Marino's goal at 10:34 in the third sparked a four goal run for the Panthers that put the top-seed in the drivers' seat for good.
The Warriors struggled to clear the ball in the fourth quarter, ending 2-for-6 as Adelphi capitalized on the miscues to put three more in the back of the cage.
Adelphi's goalkeeper
Jillian McFadden came up huge in the second frame, making six saves on the Warriors' eight shots on goal.
Adelphi plays the winner of Regis and Tampa on Saturday, May 25 at noon at Showalter Stadium.
