Baseball Falls In Rain-Shortened Game at Jefferson, 7-4

Philadelphia, Pa. - In a game that was halted after five innings due to rain, the Adelphi University baseball team came out on the short end of a 7-4 loss to Jefferson University Wednesday at Alumni Field.

The loss is Adelphi's third in a row and drops the 'Cats to 8-11 on the season.

Jefferson (14-9) jumped out to an early 3-0 first-inning lead, before the Panthers staged their rally.

For the third time in as many games, Adelphi stormed all the way back. With six freshmen getting the nod in Wednesday's starting line-up, Bryan McCleary singled with a runner on to set the table in the fourth for Michael Robinson, who drove a game-tying three-run homer out to left.

Erick Duignan then doubled to center in the ensuing at-bat, before a wild pitch -- with fellow freshman Evan Carway at the dish -- scored Duignan as the go-ahead run.

With a lead, Bobby Molinaro came out to the bump -- in relief of John Carver -- and froze his first batter in the bottom half of the fourth.

A subsequent walk though soon opened the doors for the Rams to put up four runs of their own. As Jefferson's Jay Kalieta laid down a squeeze with his team trailing by a run, Molinaro missed his first baseman on the throw to get the sure out, plating the two runs that proved to be the difference in the contest.

With the rain starting to fall harder, Jefferson's Samuel Bass was able to preserve his team's three-run lead in Adelphi's half of the fifth to make it an official game.

Michael Tufo saw his first collegiate action in relief and struck out a pair of batters in his inning of work.

Head Coach Bill Ianniciello and his Adelphi squad open a three-game series with American International College on Friday (Mar. 29) at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field at 3 p.m.
