Bridgeport, Conn. - A three-homer day for the 'Cats and a five-RBI afternoon for
Joe Pellegrino lifted the Adelphi University baseball team to an 8-3 win over University of Bridgeport on Monday afternoon at Seaside Park.
With the win, the Panthers sweep the two-game season series from the Purple Knights (2-13) and level their record back at an even .500 at 8-8 overall.
Both Pellegrino homers came with two outs and surged the Brown and Gold out to a 5-0 advantage.
In the team's first plate appearance, Pellegrino -- as Adelphi's clean-up hitter -- turned on a 2-1 offering after
Albert Ramos' walk to stake the visitors to a quick 2-0 lead.
In a strikingly-similar fashion in the third, Ramos first singled in
Anthony Rigogliosi with two outs, before Pellegrino unloaded again for his second home run of the day.
It was Pellegrino's third collegiate two-homer game -- all of which have come on the road. On two occasions last season, Pellegrino lifted out a pair of long balls at Lynn (Mar. 13) and West Chester (Apr. 12).
Making his second collegiate start behind the dish, freshman catcher
Bryan McCleary struck another blow with his own two-run homer to left in the fourth.
On the hill,
Gavin Graff fired four shutout frames and improved his season record to 2-0, after ultimately tossing five innings of four-hit, two-run, five-strikeout ball.
Zach Rovner became the fourth Panther to collect a save this spring, shutting the door across 3.2 innings of work.
Head Coach
Bill Ianniciello and his Adelphi squad resume NE10 competition this weekend, when Saint Michael's College makes its first visit to Long Island since 2017. The two teams will play a doubleheader, beginning at 12 p.m.
