#3 Women’s Lax Routs Saint Michael's to Open Conference Play, 21-4

Garden City, N.Y.- In need of a bounce back game from an overtime loss last weekend, the no.3 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team opened Northeast-10 Conference play with a 21-4 win over Saint Michael's College on Saturday.

The Panthers improved their all-time record against St. Mike's to a perfect 15-0 since joining the conference during the 2010 season.

The home team opened the scoring for the game with a rookie to rookie connection. Payson Hedges scored her first of three goals of the day from Julia Foppiano's first collegiate point. Adelphi was able to rattle off seven more goals, giving the hosts an 8-0 lead after the first quarter.

After going the first 16:04 of the game without a goal, the Purple Knights scored after Catie Murphy beat sophomore Jillian McFadden for the team's first of two goals in the quarter.

Things started to get out of hand after senior Kelly-Ann McGrath scored her fourth goal of the day bringing the score to 11-1, starting the running clock with 8:53 left in the second quarter, that wouldn't stop until the final horn.

Coming back from the halftime break the Brown and Gold made a goalie change, calling on junior Madison Marchetta to relieve McFadden after only allowing two goals while making five saves.

Kerrin Heuser got in on the hat trick party scoring her third goal of the contest via an assist from senior Tamia Lawson. Heuser would go on to finish with six points, courtesy of five goals and one assist.

With a 15-point cushion, coach Pat McCabe emptied his bench and no one made more of her opportunity than freshman Ashley Kolomechuck. After notching her first collegiate assist in the third frame, she went on to assist another goal but not before scoring a goal of her own.

Sophomore Rita Sefransky had the final say for the Panthers in the 21 goal barrage, scoring on a Hedges assist with just under three minutes left in the game.

The 'Cats now hit the road for the first game of a two-game road trip. They are back in action on Thursday, Mar. 21 up in Manchester, N.H. as they take on Saint Anselm with a 4:00 p.m. draw.
