Pleasantville, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball team was unable to get off on the right foot to open its 2024 NE10 slate, following a 13-1 loss to Pace University on Friday at Peter X. Finnerty Field.
The Setters (7-4, 1-0 NE10) -- who are the reigning NE10 Tournament champions -- sent Patrick Gleason to the hill in the opening game of the series. Gleason has made starts against Adelphi (6-7, 0-1 NE10) each of the last three years and produced a combined 5.82 earned-run average in those appearances.
In what is likely his final career start against the 'Cats, Gleason pitched eight innings of two-hit ball with two strikeouts.
The lone run he allowed came in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by
Joe Pellegrino that closed the gap to 7-1 at the time.
Adelphi starter
Dawson Montesa ran into trouble from the start, and got tagged by Pace for six runs in 2.1 innings.
Bobby Molinaro and
Jacob Lee were each tasked with picking up multiple innings in relief.
After opening the year on a seven-game hitting streak,
Alec Maag now has a hit in each of his last three outings. With a 1-for-3 day,
James Eden has now successfully reached base in all but one game to start his collegiate career.
Head Coach
Bill Ianniciello and the Panthers resume their three-game series with Pace tomorrow (Mar. 16) at 1 p.m. at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field in Garden City.
