Worcester, Mass. - In a game where it never led, the Adelphi University men's basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a 75-86 loss at Assumption University on Tuesday, inside Andrew Laska Gymnasium.
Dayshaun Walton led the offense with 21 points and was followed in double-figure scoring by
Conor Regan and
Mason Jackson, who accounted for 16 and 11, respectively.
Miscues proved to be the difference maker as the Cats out-rebounded the Greyhounds (15-13, 11-11 NE10) 37-34, but committed double the errors from which the home team scored 22 points throughout the contest.
Eight minutes into the game, the Panthers (18-10, 14-8 NE10) found themselves trailing by 12, but managed to bring their deficit to single digits heading into the break. Assumption shot nearly 50 percent from the floor while Adelphi only went 9-for-25 from the field in the opening half.
An 11-2 run in favor of the Panthers - and featuring three consecutive makes from beyond the arc from Regan and
Seth Brown - saw the visiting team trail by three with 11:34 on the clock. With a glimpse at overcoming the hosts, the offense went cold as Assumption rattled off a 12-2 run of its own to lead by 13 just three minutes later.
Adelphi's late attempt to string some offense together was a mere glimpse at a comeback victory, as the Greyhounds continued to have answers on their end of the floor, successfully closing out the 86-75 decision.
Due to a Bentley loss and Pace win on Tuesday, the Panthers should still lock up the no. 2 seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference tournament. An official release will be posted by Wednesday on aupanthers.com and northeast10.org.
