Garden City, N.Y. — The Adelphi men's basketball team returned home to the Center for Recreation and Sport on Sunday afternoon when it hosted conference foe Saint Anselm.
The Panthers set the tone early, grabbing an early lead and never let it go as they went on to win the game in what became a blowout, 90-63.
Adelphi scored the first five points of the contest as the early minutes of the game were a defensive slugfest. The 'Cats jumped out to a ten point lead with just under 10 minutes to play in the first half thanks to an Al-Fatir Connor three-pointer and never looked back.
A three from Dayshaun Walton and an offensive takeover from Andres Fulgencio saw the Brown and Gold take a 20 point lead into the break.
Saint Anselm tried to chip away from the Adelphi lead but the fast paced Panthers were just too much for the Hawks to handle. The home town lead grew to as much to 30 after a pair of Jarnel Rancy free throws as there was not anything Saint Anselm could do to stop the bleeding.
Fulgencio led the team with 18 points, followed by Pierre Philippe and Matthew Price who each had 13.
Walton and Mason Jackson shared the Panther lead with nine rebounds a piece. Walton added 12 points and now is just six away from 1,000 for his collegiate career.
Connor had a team-high five assists.
Head coach Dave Duke and the Panthers will return to the court on Wednesday when they host the College of Staten Island at the CRS on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m
