Rindge, N.H. - Backed by an impressive 19-point performance from senior point guard
Kaitlyn O'Connell, the Adelphi University women's basketball team won its game over Franklin Pierce University Wednesday evening, by a final score of 49-38.
Defense stood to be the opening feature of the night, as the teams would combine for eight total points through the first five minutes of play.
Lauren Beberman's three by quarter's end would lead the squad as the 'Cats trailed by one.
While the Raven lead would extend to eventually seven following a three-point make from the hosts' Armani Rivera, the Brown and Gold would soon respond. O'Connell continued her dominance from beyond the arc with a deep shot of her own to cap off a 10-3 run, putting the game in a deadlock at 19 heading into the locker rooms.Â
Good times kept rolling for the Panthers late in the third frame, with an 8-0 spurt later in the quarter proving to be a key difference maker. O'Connell would score five of those, once again ending in a three-point field goal to give the Massachusetts native 14 on the night.
Franklin Pierce would keep the game close over the final 10 minutes, but were never able to close the gap to a significant margin. Getting the game as close as five after two free throws from Sara Macary, two layups from Beberman would ice the game for the road team.
O'Connell would finish 4-10 from three, accounting for all of the team's makes from deep. Beberman would also put on an impressive defensive showing, tallying four steals and three blocks.Â
