Philadelphia, Pa. — After a hard fought NE10 win over Bentley on Wednesday, head coach
Dave Duke and the Adelphi men's basketball team took on Chestnut Hill in a non-conference tilt Saturday afternoon.
The first half was a seesaw affair with neither team able to pull away from the opponent. A seven point Panther lead turned into a six point Griffin lead but by the time the half ended, Adelphi led by two. Each team ended the period shooting over 40% from the floor and over 30% from beyond the arc.
The second half would be all Panthers, however. Adelphi was lights out, shooting 55.6% as a whole and 45.5% from three. The defense was suffocating as Chestnut Hill only shot 19.4% as a team and scored 16 points.
The turning point in the half came relatively early. The game was tied at 40 just under the 18 minute mark when the Panthers ripped off a 19-4 run with buckets from
Al-Fatir Connor,
Mason Jackson,
Tavin Pierre Philippe and
Matthew Price. The lead swelled to 20 and the 'Cats came out on top with a 71-50 win.
Andres Fulgencio scored a team-high 22 points, shooting 9-15 while also grabbing six boards.
Dayshaun Walton led the Panthers with six assists.
The Adelphi men's basketball team will return to the court on Tuesday when it hosts Southern Connecticut Stae at 7:30 p.m.
