Springfield, Mass. - Appearing in its twelfth Northeast-10 Conference semifinals, the Adelphi University volleyball program fell to top-seeded American International College on Friday evening, 3-1.
The Panthers (22-9, 8-2 NE10) struggled in the opening set and despite putting up a fight to win the second, they dropped the next two to bow out of the conference tournament.
Before long, the fourth-seeded Cats were down by 10 in the first, as the Yellow Jackets - who put together an undefeated regular season in league play - came out firing on all cylinders. A near perfect frame for the hosts, Adelphi was plagued with errors, only recording nine kills with seven errors, as they fell 25-12.
Turning it around in the second,
Kalena Ricketts rattled off three straight kills to give Adelphi a 16-7 advantage. AIC came within one at 20-19, but the Panthers were able to hold on to even the match at one-all.
The hosts returned to their winning ways, taking the third by a 25-16 final and closing the door on the fourth with a 25-13 win. In total, the Yellow Jackets held a commanding 14-6 advantage in blocks and recorded 12 aces comparatively to Adelphi's three.
Macarty McQueen and Ricketts were the lone Panthers in double-digit kills, collecting 11 and 10, respectively. NE10 Setter of the Year
Kambel Fiser had 41 assists as
Jaydin Nowak accounted for 17 digs.
The Panthers will await the call for an at-large bid with the NCAA Division II Selection Show, scheduled for Monday, November 25 at 7:30 p.m. airing live on NCAA.com.
