Pink Flair Aids In Volleyball Victory over Pace, 3-0

Garden City, N.Y. - With the help of pink uniform tops in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Adelphi University volleyball team picked up its first Northeast-10 Conference victory on Tuesday, defeating Pace 3-0.

Noelle Alberda led all players with 14 kills, boasting a .300 hitting percentage for the match.

After rattling off 15 kills in the opener, Adelphi (10-7, 1-1 NE10) went on to secure a 25-18 first set decision. Down three in the early going, the Panther offense managed to string together a handful of runs to ultimately put the game in its favor. Emilia Cascapera recorded a kill at 21-15 that forced the Setters to call a timeout, but timely hitting down the stretch earned the home team the win.

Pace worked out to a 7-4 advantage in the second set that caused Head Coach Danielle MacKnight to call and early stoppage. Regrouping, Albera sparked an eight point run with Jamaya Harris at the service line. In that span, Alberda collected two kills and Harris was responsible for two service aces. Quickly shifting momentum, Adelphi used its edge to hold on for a 25-19 victory.

The Setters were held to a negative hitting percentage in the second and were sub- .100 for the contest.

A closer set saw the third frame feature 13 tie scores and four lead changes. At 9-9, Kambel Fiser served through a five point run that one would have thought put the hosts in the drivers' seat. Pace stormed back with a comparable stretch of points that put them back in the lead, at 16-15. Trading points, it was ultimately a kill and a block from Kalena Ricketts that all but capped the NE10 matchup. Alberda and Macarty McQueen registered the final two kills of match to give Adelphi its first win in league action after suffering a loss to American International over the weekend.

The 'Cats return home on Thursday, to host Georgian Court in non-conference action at 7:00 p.m. inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.
