Rome, Ga. — After finishing as runners-up in the ITA East Regional doubles tournament, Roisin Boyd and Katarina Liedbeck earned a bid to the prestigious ITA Cup. 

The ITA Cup pits the country's best singles and doubles players against one another in order to crown an ITA national champion. 

In round one, Boyd and Liedbeck pulled off an upset victory over the team from Lubbock Christian. After cruising to a 6-3 set one lead, the Panther duo had to battle for that important second set win and pulled it off, 7-5. 

The quarterfinal match would pit Boyd and Liedbeck against players from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, who had pulled off an upset of their own in the round prior when they defeated the number three seed. The Panthers would put up a fight, but one Cinderella story had to come to an end, as they fell 2-6, 3-6. 

"I'm proud of both doubles teams for the level they brought to the tournament," head coach Rebecca Fakas said. "They represented the East Region well and competed hard against some of the best players in the nation. We are looking to build on this experience, as we finish off conference play this week."

The 'Cats will return to the court when they host Assumption on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
