Garden City, N.Y. - Allowing just one shot on goal in the full sixty minutes, the Adelphi University field hockey team conquered Franklin Pierce University in their rain-drenched match-up on Saturday afternoon at Motamed Field, 3-0.
After the game was initially scheduled to begin at noon, the previous day's rainstorm pushed back the contest to a 1 p.m. start.Â
The Panthers came out hot in the opening minutes, registering seven shots on goal in the first 15. Drama heightened after
Emiline Biggin was  granted a penalty stroke, following a saved shot just seconds before. Despite the golden opportunity, Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Zoe Noorlag guessed correctly and deflected the high left corner chance out of play.Â
In the following quarter, the play became more contested, with the Brown and Gold being earning four penalty corners throughout the period. Scoring chances too quickly became plentiful. After Biggin had another shot turned away,
Amanda Lee found the rebound and tapped it back home to put the hosts on the board. By the time the halftime whistle blew, the visitors had yet to tally a single shot.Â
While the Ravens began to mount pressure on the defensive front and registered their only shot on goal, Adelphi used that pressure and turned it into a fast break on the other end.
Elisabeth Seyfarth found Lee in the scoring circle, who then found
Ali Nagy at the top of the perimeter, lasering a shot home to the lower left side and increasing the Panther lead to 2-0.Â
As the home team began to hunker down in their offensive zone, many Brown and Gold substitutes began to make their way onto the turf in the final frame. With under two minutes remaining in the contest,
Daniella Lister found the ball near the cage and dished a pass to
Jillian Riche, who netted her first goal of the season to end the scoring and send the Panthers home with their third NE10 victory.Â
Head Coach
Jess Mulhern and Adelphi will travel to Sparkill next Wednesday (Oct. 4), when they square off against St. Thomas Aquinas. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
