Rockville Centre, N.Y. - A 70th-minute goal by
Jesper Mikkelsen was the difference Tuesday night, in the Adelphi University men's soccer team's 1-0 triumph at Molloy University at John A. Darcy Field in Rockville Centre.
In their first meeting on Molloy's home turf since 2018, the 'Cats improved to 3-0 all-time against the Lions on the road, and a perfect 8-0 since their first head-to-head showdown back in 2013.
Adelphi (3-3-1) successfully kept Molloy (1-5-1) without a shot in the first half, and stingily limited the hosts without a shot on goal for the entire ninety.
Coming off a game in which Adelphi was held without a shot, the Panthers maintained a commanding 10-2 shot advantage over the Lions.
Mikkelsen finally broke through at the midway point of the second half. A touch from right outside the eighteen by
Christopher Armas found the feet of Mikkelsen, who strided towards goal and planted the winning shot inside the far post.
Molloy mustered its only two shots of the contest in the final 4:28 -- both of which never found their way on goal.
Hidde van der Hulst made his second collegiate start for the 'Cats and earned his first career clean sheet between the pipes.
Head Coach
Gary Book and his Adelphi squad now have a week off before returning to NE10 competition against Southern Connecticut State University at Motamed Field next Tuesday (Sept. 26) at 7 p.m.
