Garden City, N.Y. - As final grades were published for the 2022-23 academic year, the Adelphi University Department of Athletics continued to uphold its reputation as a benchmark for academic success.

Each of Adelphi's 23 varsity programs successfully attained a 3.0 GPA or higher this spring, resulting in an exceptional 3.446 department grade-point average.

"Once again, our students did extremely well in the classroom this semester. We're proud of their commitment to their academic experience," said Adelphi Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation Danny McCabe. "It is a credit to their families and support systems. Our coaches have done a great job of identifying student-athletes that can handle the rigors of an Adelphi education."

Six of those teams possessed the highest GPA's among their competition in the league, earning the NE10's Team Academic Excellence Award. The men's tennis team led all 22 recognized programs with a 3.869 grade-point average, while the volleyball (3.798 GPA), softball (3.627 GPA), women's track and field (3.602 GPA), men's soccer (3.587 GPA) and women's golf (3.532 GPA) teams all received the same notice for their outstanding work in the classroom.

In the Spring 2023 semester alone, Adelphi set a school record with eight Academic All-Americans -- four of whom earned the distinct honor of being named a First Team Academic All-American. Junior pitcher Lindsey Hibbs headlined that group as the College Sports Communicators Division II Softball Team Member of the Year, and is set to be included on the ballot for CSC's Division II Academic All-American of the Year Award.

Hibbs and four of her fellow 'Cats also comprised a league-leading list of five Panthers who were tabbed as recipients of the NE10 Sport Excellence Award. They were men's lacrosse's Joseph Duchnowski, men's tennis' Marko Jovanovic, women's golf's Ilaria Ponziani and men's basketball's Ronnie Silva.

Over 300 Panthers were selected to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll. A total of 321 honorees placed the 'Cats among the Top 3 leaders in the conference for the fourth semester in a row. Nearly eighty percent of Adelphi's student-athlete population met the minimum 3.0 grade-point average.

Along the way, the Panthers managed 53 perfect 4.0 semester grade-point averages this spring.

A year culminating at Commencement, Adelphi led the NE10 with forty winners of the league's Presidents' Award for Academic Excellence -- which is presented to a graduating student-athlete who participated in at least two seasons of NE10 competition and attained the Latin honor of Magna Cum Laude or better.

As successful as the Panthers were in the classroom, Adelphi maintained a standard of excellence on the field of play, with a runner-up finish for the NE10 Presidents' Cup, as well as a No. 2 ranking among the East Region for the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup.
