Late Lead Gets Away from Baseball at Le Moyne in NE10 First Round, 10-5

Syracuse, N.Y. - After completing an improbable run towards the postseason, the No. 4 seed Adelphi University baseball team still fell 10-5 at top-seeded Le Moyne College on Tuesday in a single-elimination first-round game at Dick Rockwell Field.

The loss concludes the 2023 campaign for the Panthers, who finished with a sub-.500 record for the first time since 2015, at 22-25 overall.

Le Moyne got to Adelphi starter John Rizzo first with the long ball, before Adelphi took its opposing starter deep and grabbed the lead in the process.

First, in the top of the fifth, Kyle Olson drew out a long count against Le Moyne starter Max Parker and eventually turned on the pitch he liked for a game-tying two-run homer.

The following inning, with the score tied 3-3, Michael Draskin mashed a go-ahead two-run homer to left.

Once his team took a 5-3 lead, Rizzo took the ball for the sixth and struck out the side in order.

In his second career postseason appearance against Le Moyne, Rizzo matched his season-high with 10 strikeouts. He threw effectively across 115 pitches, but still let up four runs on six hits.

The game unraveled in the seventh, when the Dolphins tagged the Adelphi bullpen for seven runs across the final 1.1 innings.

Coleton Reitan walked three batters in his final appearance of 2023, setting the stage for Le Moyne to put up a five-spot against Jacob Dannenberg in the eighth.
