Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Suffers NCAA Quarterfinal Loss to Pace, 14-5

Pleasantville, N.Y. - After defeating Le Moyne in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday, the Adelphi University women's lacrosse team returned to Pace Stadium to take on the top-seeded Setters on Sunday, but unfortunately fell 14-5 to conclude the 2023 season.

The first quarter was all Setters, as the first six trips toward their offensive zone for the Panthers resulted in turnovers. The home team managed to put up an 11-3 advantage in shots alone, and a perfect effort on clears.

Adelphi did not get on the board until under the 10 minute mark in the second frame, when Izzy Grant connected with Kerrin Heuser to break the silence. Pace had racked up an eight-goal lead to that point, with five coming courtesy of free position attempts from the eight-meter.

Heuser was responsible for the next Adelphi tally in the third period, after converting a free position attempt but not before the Setters scored the opener of the quarter to make it an eight-goal lead. The game shifted slightly as the Brown and Gold managed to gain some momentum, holding a 6-3 edge in shots in the third, but were only able to add two tallies overall, to trail by six heading into the final 15 minutes of action.

Four straight goals from the hosts all but sealed the deal for Pace, who will make its first trip to the Final Four in program history after closing out a 14-5 win. Izzy Grant and Kristina Schweitzer ended their careers with the final score and assist of the season, before the game concluded.

The Panthers conclude the 2023 season at 13-7 overall with their 17th appearance all-time in the NCAA tournament.
