Syracuse, N.Y. - On the strength of three home runs in Game 1, the Adelphi University baseball team earned a split of a doubleheader at Le Moyne College on Friday to close out its four-game series in Syracuse.
Game 1: Adelphi 10, Le Moyne 8
After falling into an early 2-0 hole in the opening frame,
Joe Pellegrino capitalized with runners on base, launching a three-run round-tripper to give the 'Cats a 3-2 lead in the second inning.
Johnny Catuosco then seized his opportunity with runners in scoring position later in the inning and drove home two more. Two innings later, he tallied two more RBI, courtesy of his own home run, to increase the Panther lead to 7-2 after four frames.
Adelphi added on some insurance in the fifth, highlighted by
Michael Draskin's solo bomb that increased its lead to 10-2.
The home squad clawed back the last couple innings with a few knocks over the fence that soon slimmed the margin down to just two at 10-8.
Tommy O'Sullivan entered the game with two outs in the seventh and only needed one pitch to secure his second save of the season and close out the Panther win.
Jordan Falco gets his third win of the year, following a 104-pitch performance that saw him allow four earned runs on six hits through 4.1 innings.
Game 2: Adelphi 6, Le Moyne 7
After a hitless first two innings,
Albert Ramos' single lined up
Anthony Cipri for his first knock of the game to left field to give the visitors an early 2-0 advantage.
The visitors responded the following inning, when Zach Brush's home run wiped the lead away and put the 'Fins on top, 3-2, after four.
The Panthers were ready to fire back in the fifth, when Cipri fired another one out of the park, this time beyond the right-field fence, putting the 'Cats back on top, 4-3.
Kyle Olson slapped another two-run bomb to dead center, increasing the lead to 6-3.
In the bottom half of the fifth, Nick Nevins knotted the game up at 6-all with his game-tying three-run blast. Le Moyne's Drew Carroll gave the home team the lead for good in the seventh, courtesy of an RBI double.
Brendan Kenneally's day concluded after five innings of work, allowing six earned runs on five hits while collecting six strikeouts. O'Sullivan took the loss in relief, allowing the winning run in 1.1 innings.
Jacob Dannenberg closed out the afternoon for the visitors, going the final 1.2 innings and collecting two strikeouts.
