Garden City, N.Y. - Not only did she fire a complete-game shutout,
Lindsey Hibbs hurled four innings of scoreless relief in Game 2 to cement a sweep of Pace University for the No. 14 Adelphi University softball team on Tuesday at Janet L. Ficke Field.
Since Bentley swept New Haven today, the Panthers (37-6, 17-3 NE10) can officially clinch an NE10 regular-season title with any combination of two wins over their final four regular-season games.
Hibbs also went over 300 strikeouts for the season, surpassing last year's single-season record -- as an NCAA Division II program -- of 301. With 307 total whiffs, Hibbs currently leads the way as the nation's strikeout queen.
Game 1: Adelphi 1, Pace 0
After committing a throwing error that put the lead-off runner on base for Pace, Hibbs proceeded to face three over the minimum the rest of the way.
Only one Pace batter ever made it past first base against Hibbs, who failed to walk a hitter and struck out ten in a two-hit shutout.
The Panthers struggled to muster much against Pace starter Anna Acevedo until the fourth inning, when
Jaden Farhat went with a 2-1 pitch to the opposite field for an RBI single to break the ice.
While Adelphi was retired in order in the fifth and sixth, and limited to just five hits, Hibbs commanded the circle for her conference-leading 21st win of the season.
Game 2: Adelphi 6, Pace 3
Although the 'Cats' fast start vanished,Â
Jordyn Pasqueralli's lead-off triple in the third set the wheels in motion for the Panthers to re-take the lead.
Zee Zee Shreter followed Pasqueralli's triple with a single back through the box to put Adelphi back ahead. She then stole second and
Alexa Sacripante's RBI single soon stretched the gap to 5-3.
Claire Fon retired the first six to face her, but
Carla Campagna turned back to Hibbs to shut the door.
A walk and a single were the only blemishes on Hibbs' record in the nightcap, as the Panthers ran their winning streak to sixteen consecutive games -- the program's longest since 2007.
Head Coach
Carla Campagna and her Adelphi squad return to action Thursday (Apr. 27) at 2 p.m. against the College of Saint Rose at Janet L. Ficke Field.
