Baseball Getting Hot at Right Time; Takes Down Queens, 8-1

Flushing, N.Y. - With an important conference series on tap, the Adelphi University baseball team still took down ECC contender Queens College on the road Tuesday, 8-1, at Hennekens Stadium in Flushing.

While Adelphi still remains under-.500 with a 17-21 overall record, the Panthers are 5-1 in their last six games -- heading into a season-deciding series at NE10 rival Le Moyne on Thursday and Friday.

Adelphi tallies fifteen hits against Queens' arms and managed double-digit hits for the fourth time during this hot six-game stretch. As a team, the 'Cats are batting .337 (73-for-216) over the last two weeks.

In the second inning alone, the Brown and Gold collected six hits, with two of them driving in runs. Joe Pellegrino -- who doubled to lead off the second -- scored off a Tim Feliz RBI single to open the scoring.

After grounding into a fielder's choice in the second to plate a run, Albert Ramos came home in the fourth on a Johnny Catuosco RBI groundout, making it a 4-1 game.

Ramos finished the day 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a career-high three RBIs, while Catuosco drove in a pair of runs out of the lead-off spot of the lineup.

The freshman's last RBI knock put the game away for good. With the bases full and no outs, Ramos nearly cleared the bases with a two-RBI single to left-center.

Junior pitcher Carlos Acosta won his start in convincing fashion, working five innings without giving up an earned run. Zach Rovner added three scoreless innings, and Jacob Dannenberg pitched a perfect ninth.

Head Coach Bill Ianniciello and the 'Cats depart for Syracuse tomorrow, leading into a crucial four-game series with Le Moyne that begins Thursday (Apr. 27) at 12 noon.
